30 interactive videos about skin picking, BFRBs, and mental health: I'm broadcasting live every day for the next month
Your chance to ask me your questions on skin picking (or hair pulling or other BFRBs): For about a month, maybe more if I'm loving it, I'll be broadcasting live videos on periscope. Do you know about periscope? I had been hearing good things about it, so after opening an account and checking out a few videos, I jumped in with a video of my own this morning, just me talking in my backyard.I didn't actually expect anyone to see it! I thought it would be like other social media, where you would have to have followers for anyone to see your content. I thought I would get my feet wet and practice with no one seeing me but, to my surprise, nearly from the beginning a bunch of people were jumping on to see me speak. Some people (probably most or maybe all?) didn't know what skin picking was, so somebody asked right away. I ended up explaining that first, before moving onto another topic. I never felt that spreading public awareness of compulsive skin picking was part of my mission, but there I was - it seems like I just fell into it, so why not? It felt pretty good to educate people in that way, although I hope my future broadcasts will have more viewers who are themselves dealing with skin picking, and want some tips and wisdom to help them move forward. You know, like you guys (and gals).I was excited and delighted when people began sending me hearts, sort of the equivalent of "likes" and "favorites", except that you can send as many as you want to the speaker. I ended up with 23 hearts and 1 follower from the 8 minute broadcast, but to be honest 19 of the hearts were from the woman who followed me. Hey, I'll take it!So, I don't know if it was me being giddy from all the hearts, but without any forethought, I heard myself promising to broadcast EVERY DAY for 30 days. The biggest secret to success at anything (including, nay, ESPECIALLY breaking the skin picking cycle) is really the accountability factor. (Do you have some way to keep yourself accountable?) It's only because I found myself saying it in public, that I am now committed to doing these live videos every single day for 30 days. Gulp!Aside from getting over my "stage fright" and nerves, I think it's going to be easy. How many times a week do I find myself explaining something in a neat new way to one of my coaching clients, or learning something from them, that I could share in a short video? Also, I give a tip of the day every day on twitter and Facebook. If I don't know what else to talk about, I could just elaborate on the daily tip. Or I can choose a related topic, such as how to deal with anxiety. So many possibilities. What would you like to hear me speak about? I am open to requests, so please feel free to comment on this post, or tweet me at @Annettep333. That is also my username on periscope, so follow me there and turn on your notifications to catch me live. Otherwise, I am posting the recordings on twitter. (And they will go by default to my Facebook too, although you will probably actually have to look on my Facebook page to find them. It's doubtful that Facebook will put them in your feed.)Please tune in and pick my brain!Love and support,Annettep.s. Have you downloaded my free “Freedom Kit”?
