New Year's Resolutions and Better Habits in the New Year
How many times have you made a New Year's resolution to stop picking? I'm guessing it could be many times, right? Is it on your agenda this year too?
With so many failed attempts in the past, should you even make one?
Well, if it's something you've done every year with no results, I want you to consider why. Why have you had no results so far? And what's different this year, if anything? It's not in your best interest to make another empty New Year's resolution without a plan. It will only make you feel lousy and reinforce the belief that you can't stop picking.Instead of a resolution, consider making a plan. Or if you really like the idea of a resolution, resolve this year to take action. Do something different. Have the intention that this year you truly go for progress, not perfection. Make a commitment that you'll learn what you need to free yourself from picking, you'll find yourself support and you'll do the work it takes with persistence and faith.
We're all motivated at the start of something new, whether it's a new habit you hope to make, a new program or a new year. It's keeping yourself going long enough to make lasting change that's the challenge.
Watch the video below for more details on how to make a plan for yourself and then how to get yourself the support and accountability you deserve. Afterwards, continue to read below the video for more on how to make a new positive habit routine that will decrease your skin picking or help you attain any other goals that you have in the new year.
What is the easiest, most effective way to make positive changes in your life consistently? The answer is to set up a morning routine for yourself before you do anything else in your day.
A morning routine will set your day up right, starting you out with a positive mindset and a bit of calm before the storm of the day.You can include many things (or just one or two) in your morning routine, and some of these choices can directly reduce your picking. Exercise, breathing exercises, meditation or prayer practice can put you in a positive calm focused state that is incompatible with picking. The benefits of these activities spill into the rest of your day and lead to reduced amounts of skin picking.
I go much more in-depth into morning routines in this video, including why you might like to set one up, what to include (many possibilities), and how to successfully implement a morning routine to make it a positive habit that works for you long-term. (Because we often have the will to implement, but not the detailed planning and tips that make it easier.)
I also talk about my own morning routine today and ones I've done in the past. I've included morning routines in my life for the past 8+ years and they have absolutely transformed my life. Honestly, I was an anxious mess beforehand and my morning routine was an important aid to becoming free from the hours wasted picking my skin.
Love and support,
Annette
