Many of us notice our skin picking, hair pulling or nail biting becomes worse in the week or so before our menstrual periods. We might feel completely out of control and not like ourselves. It may even seem like everything bad that happens in our lives happens in that one week or so every month.
I know I felt like that. For two decades I had irregular periods, and for a few years I had PMS when I’d experience heightened negative emotions, especially fear and anger, and painfully sore breasts. Not to mention more picking at my skin. (I also had ovarian cysts, which disappeared after a month or two of regular acupuncture treatments.) Following Jeanne Blum’s life-changing book, Woman Heal Thyself, I started doing a few minutes of acupressure three days a month. For the last four years, my periods have been regular, and the PMS, with the negative emotions, soreness and out-of-control compulsiveness, has been gone. Except when I slack off doing the acupressure; then some symptoms, like the soreness, return. Today, my reproductive cycle is healthier and more in balance in my 40’s than it was in my 20’s and 30’s.
PMS is not inevitable. When our bodies are in balance, PMS goes away. Acupressure is a simple yet profound tool to use to achieve balance. If you have terrible PMS, perhaps including out-of-control picking, pulling or biting, or very painful menstrual cramps, and you’re willing to do a bit of work each month (work that can be done while you watch TV or read a book), read this book. It could change your life.
